Personal Hygiene
Taking advantage of streams and lakes for a quick dip is all right, but don’t use a water source that you think someone will be using for drinking water, and don’t take a soapy bath. If you want to bathe or do laundry, carry water a safe distance away from the shoreline. Never use detergent. Plain soap is biodegradable and disappears into the soil and plant life without damage.
When you need to “go to the bathroom,” dig yourself a cat hole with either a shovel or even the heel of your shoe; be sure to cover the hole when you’re done.
Take a hygiene travel kit in a small bag. Items may include a comb or hair brush, toothbrush, toothpaste, razor (with extra blades), and plain or biodegradable soap.
