Outdoor Organizations

Everyone who shares the love of nature and who has participated in any of the many outdoor recreational activities available knows that we must take action to safeguard our natural resources. We must also strive to protect our wildlife and preserve our wilderness areas. It is our responsibility to minimize the impact of our activities on our environment. Many outdoor organizations promote these values through education, conservation and recreation. Do your part to preserve our great land so that everyone may enjoy its treasures for many years to come.

American Hiking Society – This recreation-based, conservation organization promotes hiking and is dedicated to establishing, protecting, and maintaining foot trails in America.

Appalachian Mountain Club
– This club promotes the protection, enjoyment, and wise use of the mountains, rivers and trails of the Northeast.

Appalachian Trail Conference – This organization is dedicated to the preservation and
maintenance of the Appalachian Trail which run from Maine to Georgia. They provide information about the trail and tips on planning your next hike.

Bureau of Land Management – The BLM administers 264 million acres of America’s public lands, located primarily in 12 Western States.

Coastal Conservation Association – This organization is comprised of avid recreational fishermen who have banded together to save the natural resources of our coastal waters from depletion or destruction.

Defenders of Wildlife – They are dedicated to the protection of all native wild animals and plants in their natural communities. They focus on endangered species and habitat alteration and destruction.

Earth’s 911 – Sponsored by Cleanup, Inc. This program gives people in the US and Canada access to environmental information and resources in their communities. Learn about a variety of environmental topics including household hazardous waste, recycling drop-offs, yellow page directory recycling, beach water quality and more.

Greenpeace – An independent campaigning organization that uses non-violent direct action and creative communication to expose global environmental problems and to promote solutions that are essential to a green and peaceful future.

Leave No Trace – This organization promotes and inspires responsible outdoor recreation through education, research, and partnerships. They are dedicated to building awareness, appreciation, and most of all, respect for our public recreation places.

National Audubon Society – They strive to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds and other wildlife for the benefit of humanity and the earth’s biological diversity.

National Parks Conservation Association – This organization works to safeguard the scenic beauty, wildlife, and historical and cultural treasures of our national parks.

National Park Service – They promote and regulate the use of the national park systems which purpose is to conserve the scenery, natural and historic objects and the wildlife which provides enjoyment, education, and inspiration to all.

National Recreation and Park Association – They strive to advance parks, recreation and environmental conservation efforts that enhance the quality of life for all people.

Recreation.gov – A one-stop source for information about recreation on federal lands.

Student Conservation Association – SCA is America’s largest and oldest provider of national and community conservation service opportunities, outdoor education and career training for youth.

The Nature Conservancy -They strive to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive.

The Wilderness Society – This organization works to protect America’s wilderness to ensure that future generations will enjoy the clean air and water, wildlife, beauty and opportunities for recreation and renewal that pristine forests, rivers, deserts and mountains provide.

Trout Unlimited -They strive to conserve, protect and restore North America’s trout and salmon fisheries and their watersheds.

US Army Corps of Engineers Volunteer Clearinghouse – Volunteer at beautiful Corps lakes across the United States. Volunteers serve as campground hosts, staff Visitor Centers, restore fish and wildlife habitat, maintain park trails and facilities, and more.

U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service – They strive to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife, and plants and their habitats.

U.S. Forest Service – A Federal agency that manages and protects public lands in national forests and grasslands.

World Wildlife Fund – WWF is the world’s largest and most experienced independent conservation organization. Their mission is to protect nature and the biological diversity that we all need to survive.
