Channels

Channels

Channels are similar to drop-offs in concentrating fish. These are usually caused by an inlet stream. An added advantage is that some current action may still take place resulting in concentrating food supplies, oxygen or better temperature conditions. In times of hot weather channels furnish cooler more oxygenated water. At these times fish become closely schooled. Channels occur adjacent to a lake shallow and afford protective cover. This depth and protection provides an ideal location for fish to enjoy the incoming food, shade, and at times cooler oxygen enriched water.

Locating channels can be done by visual observation from a high vantage point. Since they can meander in many directions they are hard to find by video sonar alone. Channels are worth the effort in locating and in mapping their exact locations.
